Janet Cosplay Part II - The Janet from Mood Sewciety

Welcome back for Janet Cosplay Part II, where I discuss the making of the vest and skirt. If you haven't seen Part I, check here to see the blouse . I ordered the suggested fabric for the skirt and vest from Mood. The pattern I used for the vest was this freebie from the Mood Sewciety blog , and I sorta did a circle skirt for the skirt. The Onella blouse (previous post) and The Janet Cosplay skirt. I wanted pockets so I used a half-circle measurement but cut it into three pieces. Two pieces were used to create the back seam with a zipper closure. Then the pockets were sewn into the side seams. Thus, I ended up with something between a half- and a quarter-skirt. This was my first circle skirt with pockets, so I looked around for resources on how to approach it. This blog was the most help. Nyssa Dress for New Year's Eve

Earlier this year, I came across the Nyssa Dress , a free pattern offered by Mood Sewciety. (Seriously, they have some amazing patterns - all of them are free!) Anyway, I knew I just had to make the dress. First, I had to find the perfect fabric that also didn't cost a lot since I was not sure if I would like this pattern or not. My fabric pick ended up being $3 a yard of some really nice-feeling fabric from G Street Fabrics . They have a great scrap room where all the fabrics are $3 a yard, so there are great finds there. I love this dress, but there are a couple of changes I would make if I were to do this again. First, wrap dresses are challenging to wear - one has to figure out how to put the ties so that there are no wardrobe malfunctions. As if that wasn't enough, assembling a wrap dress was a bit of a puzzle! I had to check the placement of the ties and the hole about 10 times to confirm they were where I wanted them to to be! Janet Cosplay Part I - The Onella Blouse from Mood Sewciety

When I saw this cosplay outfit come up on the Mood Sewciety blog, I knew I could not resist it. I love the television show, The Good Place, and Janet's outfit seemed straightforward enough to make in time for New York Comic Con. So off I went to the Mood website to order some fabric, and away I went! First up, was this beautiful blouse - The Onella Blouse . I'm in love with this polyester crepe. I know it doesn't sound appealing, but this fabric is so silky. I love the feel of it. I also really love the finished blouse. Although I made it for my measurements, I could have sized down at least one, probably two, sizes on the pattern. The shirt is huge! I took it in a little after NYCC, and it is still a little on the large size. Now, let's get into the actual construction.
